Music Association of Maldives

Music Association of  Maldives (MAM) which commenced in 15th March 2009, is the industry body for the music  sector, including composers, songwriters, lyricists, performers and music publishers.
Activities fall into separate groups:  promoting the interests of the industry and growing the number of Maldivians who play music for their education, for health or for fun, and regardless of age or music genre.
The MAS acts with no bias.  Our philosophy is, to act on behalf and for the benefit of all, neither harming nor advantaging any individual member. The MAM would work mainly on 4 objectives:
  • Researching the history of Maldivian Music and develop the diminishing cultural music of Maldives. Hence, creating a hype of Maldivian influenced music to be aired even on the media levels
  • Creating a collective management society to aid artist’s original works with the help of government entities and laws
  • Making a platform for the new and current musicians, who are based upon commercial music performance, mainly resort music.
  • Negotiating and implementation with interested foreign  parties, so as to bring an international recognized music school to the Maldives and further exchange programs
All these visions could be carried with the help of all related personnel in the music scene and we need your utmost ideas and help to implement these goals. With regard to this, we are inviting all musicians to a brainstorming session with us, on the 6th of July 2009 at 12.00pm, in the MCSE seminar room.

Tennessee Gets New "Musical" License Plate

Tennessee unveiled a new vanity license plate, to commemorate the state’s contribution to music and benefit music education.
The “State of American Music” plates are available now for pre-order. They’ll set you back $35, with a $3 service fee, and proceeds will be distributed by The Gibson Foundation towards music education initiatives led by Tennessee music museums and charities.
The state that is home to Music City, USA has developed the plate because it “properly promotes Tennessee as the most musical state in the nation,” said John Doyle, Executive Director of the Memphis Rock ‘n’ Soul Museum, which received authorization for the plate from the Tennessee State Legislature.
To ensure production, 1,000 plates must be pre-ordered. If they do not garner enough interest within 12 months, the plates will be cancelled and all orders will be refunded.
